I seem to remember that the end credits were pretty cool too- running sort of backwards.
This was the first movie that the credits had me going- “Damn, that’s amazing” in quite a while- the whole Imaginary Forces reel was pretty impressive when I first saw it about 10 years ago.

This was done at Imaginary Forces and title giant Thomas Cobb worked on this as well.

  • Robot

One of the best title sequences ever…

This was a starting point for me. The grungy letters, the jumpcuts. The best.

  • Nelson B

    Magnificent.

Does anyone know what the significance of the “No Key” that when is played frame by frame appears numerous times in the Title sequence.

The dvd has a long video about the making of this sequence. worth the dissection, pun intended.

Pity that Coil, who did the remix of Closer, isn’t credited in the movie.

“Closer (Precursor)” (Remixed by Coil, Danny Hyde) from the Album “Closer to God” from NIN (Halo 9)

when i saw the film for the first time .. i wonder how can he think like that … i didn’t ever see something like this great title before .

I think some of the photographs used in the intro sequence were similar to work by the Starn twins http://www.wdog.com/sarah/starn_brothers.htm

Art of the Title needs to cover the closing credits as well. The credits in this movie are the best.

Its strength is also the introduction comes from nowhere. The film begins with Morgan Freeman coming home from work and preparing for bed. As he lays back in bed and starts the metronome and from that this kicks in. It goes from the calm of Summersets world to the chaos of John Does.

As a matter of fact, this was done by Kyle Cooper in 1995 while he was creative director at R/Greenberg Associates in LA. He founded Imaginary Forces a year later (1996). (Thomas Cobb did work on this as well, that’s correct).
