IFC???? Need you say more? Is there really 33 title sequences better than this? Forgetting that it in my opinion is a Masterwork unto itself, the nearly 3 hours which follows is a testament to the Greatness of Leone’s cinema. I have watched The Searchers no less than half a dozen times and is am convinced now as I was the 1st time I saw it, Once Upon a Time in the West is the Greatest western ever made and in my opinion, stands honorably with the Greatest films of all time.

Came to this site after seeing IFC’s top 50 tilte sequences. Once Upon a Time came in at 33. Hmm. This sequence is brilliant and the movie (and score) are among the best ever.

The title of the film is shown prominently at the end of the movie. Its placement there strikes me as visual narration.

Love the site and this is my favourite title sequence – just noticed the gag of having the word ‘Delays’ written on the board at the station, perfect for a scene/film/director, that builds so much through delaying the action as long as possible, time and again.

Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the greatest films. I love everything about this movie. It is stunning visually and the music is so wonderful, but then again, how can you go wrong with Ennio Morricone?

Great pick Ian. I saw this movie as C’era una volta il west in Italy in ’68. One of my all time favorites. Glad to hear you’re back in town.

For real 10 minutes! but still worth every minute. The different rolling in titles are great. The fly is the topper though!
