I love the opening sequence, but I'm trying to figure out who the mosquito is biting and who slaps it away.

It looks to me like Dexter is on his stomach looking at the camera with his head turned looking toward his left arm. But the slap is with a left hand. So what exactly are we seeing there?

nice. agree it's a touch long but still compelling.
recognized DKs work instantly. lots of familiar elements. aesthetics, transitions, organic. 'plops' and such.

Maybe I am seeing things that aren't there, but the opening shot where Dexter splatters the mosquito that is (about to) sucking blood, is a metaphor for Dexter killing 'parasites' and killers, where the mosquito symbolizes the 'killer' he kills? If so, that's genious!

It's definitely my favourite title sequence - still after 3 years. I find many shows try to over do it, but this is clever and gets you excited for the episode. The imagery represents the comedic factor of the series too. I liked the S4 pilot's variation as well, but glad it went back to the original feel. Great site btw!

There is a fun nod to this sequence in the fourth season opener titled "Living the Dream" with segments of the title sequence reshot with a sleep deprived Dexter. He's a dad now so this time the mosquito lives.

No way!!! Totally disagree..pacing and edit are solid, all the shots are soo meaningful, so metaphoric and beautiful. Just my 2 cents...
BTW you can see the original winning storyboard pitch over at http://www.lindsaydaniels.com
There are some other goodies over there as well, ie: the dexter excepting the emmy, etc.
