The Art of the Title Sequence

Sahara

SaharaClick to Watch

Even though it was panned by critics, disowned by the original author and a box office failure, Sahara has a beautifully executed single take motion-control camera move for the opening title, that details the hero’s history and previous exploits. It also bears a striking similarity to Delicatessen’s opening montage.

  1. Very cool website… just discovered it thanks to Joblo.com – Terrible film, yet fun credits that tell you about all you need to know about the Dirk Pitt character. Ironic that they use a song from Dazed and Confused, which is still McConaughey’s best role.

I’ll be back for more… I love a good title sequence!

I really do love the amount of information conveyed to the alert viewer by this sequence, it’s a joy to watch with the opening credits. The movie is a bit of a guilty pleasure, mainly from Steve Zahn’s presence. Delroy Lindo is always fun too. I can certainly think of a lot of blockbusters that deserved to bomb as bad as this one and didn’t.

Kudos on your beautiful website here. It’s been an addiction since discovering it.

I agree that the movie is nothing special but this title sequence is one of my favorites. I think the lighting and selective focus is incredible.

Yeah, not a fan of the movie, but it just came on while I was watching TV and I couldn’t take my eyes away during the opening! Thanks for the stills!
