I just watched INCREDIBLE HULK for the first time (8/2/09) and was BLOWN AWAY by the title sequence. I came to the net because I thought this title sequence MUST have won some kind of award. AWESOME. Amazing narrative. These titles just raised the bar big time.

I think the point has been made. Art of the Title would like to invite anyone who has worked on a featured title sequence and has an interesting elucidation to share to please let us know. If it is good, we want to share it. The same goes for verifiable credits.

Da Truth, agreed again.

Just to reiterate, Kyle certainly deserves the praise that he receives. But there is a lack of acknowledgment of a collective effort in these interviews. There are a lot of people involved who put in countless hours into these projects. Seriously, 70–80 hours a week. Not to say, Kyle isn't in the studio at strange hours either. But it's giving due praise to the people who are in the trenches and doing the heavy lifting labour.

On a slightly different note, you tend to see through different lenses when you look at a Creative Director who can kick your ass in concepting, designing, and execution in nearly any program (like Danny Yount), and a Creative Director who probably hasn't used Photoshop in years (guess who). Just sayin...

Certainly Prologue is Kyle's company and he is leading the charge. And quite obviously he is good at doing exactly that both externally and internally. Since he is the owner and Creative Director, I don't have any problem with him receiving accolades and credit, he deserves it for sure. I take more an issue with the use of "I" instead of "we".

If you go and read just about any interview with Kyle you will find that he always says "I designed this" or "this is what I did." Wouldn't it be much more appropriate to say "we designed this" or "my team and I developed this"? And when pressed or asked about his team he never mentions that he has other designers, art directors, creative directors that work for him. And I'm not saying he needs to go through a list and mention those guys by name, all he needs to do is allude to the fact that those people do in fact exist and that there is a team.

Hey look I understand the need for there to be a singular voice but it can be done in an ethical and genuine way. Pretending that the work is his alone is just plain wrong.

Not sure if you misread that Rayce - dont think either of them were saying to credit every freelancer that touches the work, the list would be endless, I think we all know how this business works ;) your rebuttle is very defensive, which I can understand as you have been there for years... i do feel sorry for you though ;) sounds to me like you need to read those interviews again and see if they dont come off a little bit arrogant ;)

As someone who has worked for years with yU+co and Garson Yu I have to completely disagree with Da Truth and Art Mod. I can't speak to Prologue and Kyle, but every time yU+co publicizes their work, Garson always goes out of his way to talk about the 'team' effort and provide a complete credit list that includes everyone involved in the project -- junior and senior staff alike.

Lets not forget these are THEIR companies. They are the ones who have to articulate a vision to the client, and get their staff to then execute it. They are the ones who deal with all the pressures from the clients and face their wrath when things go array. Why shouldn't they take some credit for the successes? Are you suggesting they're somehow obligated to thank every freelancer that happened to work on a project every time they're asked about? I don't think so.

Sounds to me like you guys need to start your own companies. Maybe you could partner up?

Da Truth & Art Mod are right. I have had the fortune of working at Prologue and it's an electric atmosphere working with so many talented people. Unfortunately, the management isn't the best, and Kyle tends to take a lot of the credit once the work leaves the office and lands in the outside world. Everyone in the office knows that Danny and a select few are the real hands-on talent in the studio. But Kyle is king, the enigmatic dictator. On the one hand, he is a genius. On the other hand, he has a reputation and he intimidates – both of which he takes full advantage of. Sometimes he does make people feel like shit, but occasionally he does praise individuals.

Prologue is proof of Kyle's enduring prominence since Imaginary Forces, and it's a reason for why they (Prologue) keep getting work. But it's not just him. Danny Yount is name in itself, and pretty soon, Ilya Abulhanov will be a name too, not to mention Heebok Lee and a handful of other very talented peeps there. Like Art Mod said, a bit of humbleness not only goes a long way, but it shows another level of intelligence and respect.

I would have to agree with Da Truth here. I have had the misfortune of working at both Prologue and yU+Co. and loved the projects, but working for both these 'creative directors' was one of the worst working experiences of my life. It's a team effort, all of these wonderful title sequences we see are not the result of one person's hard work but the result of many hands.

I know for a fact these guys don't touch a frame of the work that is produced anymore, Danny Yount did most of the Hulk work and there is no mention of him here. As Da Truth said, countless art directors and designers play big roles in these projects. Both of these design houses have produced some wonderful work over the years but the teams never get a mention from these guys!

A bit of humbleness goes a long way if you ask me, not to mention treating the people that work with you with respect.

Great interview but holy f is this guy full of crap. Amazing the amount of credit he steals and people let him get away with it. When he mentions his team he says "editors and animators" with no mention of the countless designers and art directors that also worked on the project. I know so many very talented people that have worked for him, done all of the work only to watch him say to the world "I designed that". No "we", just "I". Unbelievable. He has a great eye and obviously knows how to creatively lead a company but his lack of ethics are striking.
